Editorial: The Next Chapter in Global Health Publishing and Communication
Bulat A. Ziganshin, MD, PhD

Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the Global Health Academy
With this inaugural issue of our new Journal of the Global Health Academy, it is with immense pride and excitement that I introduce this important transition. For many years, our well-established eMagazine has served as a dynamic platform for sharing updates, stories, and reflections from across our global health community. Through its success, we have witnessed a growing demand for deeper engagement and scholarly discourse within our network of international partners.
Recognizing this, we are evolving from the eMagazine format to a journal that will place a stronger emphasis on scientific rigor and research. While we will retain some of the popular newsletter elements during this period of transition, this new Journal aims to create a space for more scholarly contributions, from research articles to case studies, with the goal of ultimately becoming a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal. This will give voice to the incredible work happening at our partner sites and foster the exchange of ideas and innovations essential to advancing global health education and practice.
Our aims and scope are broad and interdisciplinary, focusing on the following key areas:
Global Health Education: Highlighting innovative educational methods and strategies to improve the training of health professionals worldwide.
Capacity Building and Health Systems Strengthening: Fostering dialogue around initiatives that empower healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encouraging contributions from various fields such as anthropology, public health, clinical medicine, and technology to address the complex challenges in global health.
Equity in Global Health: Providing a platform to promote equity, inclusion, and mutual benefit in global health partnerships, with a focus on LMIC-LMIC collaboration.
Decolonization of Global Health: Promoting the decolonization of global health through critical discussions on power dynamics, local ownership of health initiatives, and the need for equitable partnerships that prioritize the voices and leadership of LMICs.
Our vision is clear: we seek to make this journal a platform for all our colleagues and collaborators from around the world—a place where your insights, experiences, and discoveries can be shared and amplified within a broader scientific community. Together, we will continue to learn from one another and contribute to the collective knowledge that drives health equity and improves patient care globally.
In this inaugural issue, we are proud to present contributions from our global partners, review articles, opinion pieces, case studies, poems, and reflections that embody the core values of our mission: respect, cultural sensitivity, equity, and sustainability. As we move forward, we invite all of our colleagues and partners—both longstanding and new—to contribute their work, share their experiences, and join us in advancing the collective goal of reducing the burden of disease and promoting health equity worldwide.
As we embark on this new journey, I encourage each of you to actively participate by submitting your work, providing feedback, and engaging with the journal as a reflection of the diverse, interconnected nature of global health. This journal is not only a publication—it is a collaboration, a shared mission, and a testament to what we can achieve together.
I look forward to what we will create together in the months and years ahead.
