Author / Contributor Guidelines

Aim and Scope:


The Journal of the Global Health Academy, the official publication of the Majid Sadigh, MD Global Health Academy at Nuvance Health, serves as an inclusive platform to promote global health education, address health disparities, and support health equity worldwide.

 

The Journal of the Global Health Academy seeks to advance global health equity through the dissemination of impactful research, insights, and narratives from diverse voices around the world. We are committed to fostering inclusive, interdisciplinary dialogue that addresses health disparities, promotes education, and supports equitable partnerships. By highlighting both scientific contributions and personal perspectives from our global community, the Journal aims to empower communities, drive innovative solutions, and contribute meaningfully to the decolonization and transformation of global health.

We welcome submissions in various formats, reflecting our aim to highlight voices from diverse communities.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines:


1. Manuscript Types


We encourage submissions in the following formats. Choose the style that aligns best with your work and with the Journal’s scope:


•    Editorials: Expert commentaries on current global health topics.
•    Comments: Brief insights into recent developments or specific issues in global health.
•    Viewpoint/Opinion: Personal perspectives on critical issues in global health.
•    Correspondence: Brief communications responding to published articles.
•    Perspective: Analytical discussions offering a novel view on a topic.
•    Mini-Review: Concise overviews on global health issues.
•    Case Report/Case Presentation: Descriptions of unique or challenging cases.
•    Letter from the Field: Firsthand accounts and field-based experiences.
•    Original Research: Full-length reports of original quantitative or qualitative research relevant to global health.
•    Methodological papers: Submissions focusing on research methods, study design, or analytical approaches relevant to global health, including innovative or adapted methodologies.
•    Technical Notes / Innovations: Brief reports describing new technologies, tools, digital solutions, or practical innovations addressing global health challenges.
•    Program and Education Reports: Descriptions and evaluations of global health programs, interventions, educational initiatives, or training models, including lessons learned and implementation experiences.
•    Other: Submissions that do not fit the categories above but are relevant to global health scholarship or practice. Authors should briefly explain the relevance and format in the cover letter.

 


2. Newsletter-Style Submissions

 

We also welcome pieces that reflect the broader aspects of global health:


•    News, Highlights, and Spotlight: Updates and achievements in global health.
•    Reflections and Art-Based Submissions: Essays or creative works.
•    Blog Posts: Informal commentary on pressing issues in global health.
•    Article of the Month / Journal Club & Video of the Month: Summaries or reviews of impactful pieces.
•    Global Health Family & Photo News: Visual contributions from field settings.

Word Count Guidelines


To ensure clarity, consistency, and readability, authors are asked to follow the word count ranges below. These limits are intended as general guidance rather than strict cutoffs. Submissions that slightly exceed the suggested limits may still be considered, particularly when the content justifies the length.


•    Short-form submissions
(Editorials, Comments, Viewpoints/Opinions, Correspondence, and Newsletter-style submissions)
800–1,500 words
•    Perspective articles and Letters from the Field: 1,200–2,000 words
•    Case Reports / Case Presentations: 1,500–2,500 words
•    Mini-Reviews: 2,000–3,000 words
•    Original Research, Methodological Papers, Technical Notes / Innovations, and Program & Education Reports: 3,000–5,000 words (excluding references)
•    Other submissions: Word count to be determined based on the proposed format; authors should indicate the intended length and rationale in the cover letter.

 

Notes:
•    Word counts generally exclude references, tables, and figure legends unless otherwise specified.
•    Authors are encouraged to be concise and focus on relevance to global health practice, education, or research.
•    The editorial team may recommend revisions to length during peer review.

Manuscript Preparation


Authorship
•    All authors should have made significant contributions to the work.
•    Include a statement of each author’s role and contribution.
•    Changes to authorship must be approved by all authors and communicated to the Journal.

 

Formatting, Figures, and Tables
•    The main manuscript text file should be submitted using online submission form https://form.jotform.com/260133743117045 as an MS Word document. Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise, professional (scientific) language.
•    Figures should be high-resolution (300 dpi) and submitted as separate image files (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF). Each figure must include a caption or description and be numbered and cited in the text.
•    Tables should be in editable format (e.g., Word) and include clear titles and labels. All tables must be cited in the text.
 

References
•    References should be formatted according to the Journal’s citation style:
o    Citing journal articles: 

  • Molloy SF, Kanyama C, Heyderman RS, et al. Antifungal Combinations for Treatment of Cryptococcal Meningitis in Africa. N Engl J Med. 2018;378:1004-1017. 

o    Citing a chapter in a book:

  • Toma H. Takayasu’s arteritis. In: Novick A, Scoble J, Hamilton G, eds. Renal Vascular Disease. Philadelphia: WB Saunders; 1995:47–62

•    Limit references to 60 for original research, 50 for mini-reviews, 30 for viewpoints, and 10-15 for shorter pieces. 
•    Use in-text citations consistently, and list references at the end of the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest
•    Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
•    A statement declaring either the presence or absence of conflicts must be included with all submissions on the title page of the manuscript.

Ethical Considerations
We expect all submissions to adhere to ethical standards, with careful attention to the protection of privacy, integrity of data, and adherence to established research guidelines.
