Objectives:

  1. To understand the evolution of GH and the colonial mindset in GH

  2. To understand the ways the colonial mindset weaves into GH programs administratively, pedagogically, and in clinical practice

  3. To learn about the impact of the colonial mindset on the well-being of host institutions, patients, and communities

  4. To learn about the steps our program has taken toward decolonization, including creation of a Global South-led taskforce and a Global South-Global South empowerment model; and ways the program hopes to grow.

Objectives:

Understand and define why it is important to have women leaders in global health/healthcare/ education across all disciplines:

  • What strengths do women leaders bring to the so-called table?

  • Do women and men have intrinsically different leadership styles and if so, how are they different?

Understand and define what the prevailing barriers to developing more women leaders in global health/healthcare/education are, how these barriers may vary across different disciplines and cultures, and how rooted these barriers are in historical and structural gender inequities.

 

Discuss potential approaches for how we can overcome the identified barriers to developing more women leaders in global health/healthcare/ education – what roles do “mentorship” and “sponsorship” play?  What is the difference between “mentorship” and “sponsorship”?

  2. To learn how to foster an educational and thought-provoking conversation about the current state of sustainability efforts and the challenges and opportunities in achieving sustainability goals.

  3. To learn how to share best practices and success stories of sustainable initiatives from various industries and sectors, and how to encourage individuals to implement these practices in their own personal and professional lives.

  4. To learn how to engage citizens  from diverse backgrounds, including government officials, business leaders, academics, and community members, to collaborate on sustainability initiatives and how to create a more inclusive and holistic approach to sustainability.

  1. To explore the importance of clinical education in global health for medical and nursing students including interdisciplinary perspectives and the benefits and the challenges associated with global health clinical education.

  2. To identify best practices in clinical education for underserved areas (CBME, simulation, interprofessional shadowing of colleagues, etc.) to improve the quality of education and patient care.

  3. To examine how the 4 themes can be integrated into global health clinical education considering important content areas – tropical medicine, chronic disease, mental health, etc.

  4. To discuss the role of personal development in clinical education in global health and how can this be facilitated?

  5. To develop strategies for promoting sustainable clinical education programs across borders and to identify areas where further research is needed.
